Patrick Mahomes, known for his unparalleled skills on the football field, is making headlines not just for his athleticism but for his proud embrace of what some call the “dad bod.
” The three-time Super Bowl champion recently spoke about the advantages of his physique during a candid pre-game conversation with fellow football legend Tom Brady.
In a lighthearted moment during an interview for NFL on Fox, Mahomes explained to Brady how his midsection plays a crucial role in his game.
“I use those hips and that oblique muscle to really rotate through there,” Patrick shared, pointing out that his so-called dad bod is far from a disadvantage. “The people who see the dad bod, that’s for a reason—that’s the obliques. I’m getting them right.”
Tom Brady, who knows a thing or two about staying fit as a quarterback, couldn’t agree more. The seven-time Super Bowl winner, who has sons Jack (17) and Benjamin (14), as well as daughter Vivian (11), joked alongside Mahomes, “We’ve got to keep a little padding there. We’re getting hit all the time, they don’t understand that we can’t look like those receivers all the time.”
This conversation comes after Mahomes addressed recent offseason criticism about his appearance. “It kind of surprised me,” Mahomes said during a May interview with ESPN’s Pat McAfee. “I thought we had the whole dad bod thing out of the way last season… but I guess people still haven’t realized that I don’t have abs.”
Despite the comments, Mahomes remains unfazed. Although he joked about working on getting a six-pack, he added that a simple wardrobe adjustment could silence critics. “Hopefully, one of these days, we can figure out how to get a looser T-shirt,” Mahomes said, laughing about the viral video that stirred up online discussions. “The backpack’s just holding my shirt in.”
Behind the lighthearted banter, Mahomes’ wife, Brittany, has been a source of strength and confidence. In an interview with Sports Illustrated, she shared her perspective on dealing with public scrutiny. “Be confident in who you are and be unapologetically yourself,” she advised. “People are going to love you or hate you, but finding your values and what makes you ‘you’ to be the best version of yourself is what really matters.”
For Mahomes, being the best version of himself means owning his body and using it to his advantage on the field. Whether it’s his unique throwing style or his ability to laugh off criticism, Patrick Mahomes is proving that, dad bod or not, success speaks for itself.
