Quentin Tarantino has never given his mom a penny from his wealth and never will for 'petty' reason

The legendary director has amassed a reported wealth of around $120 million

I feel like as a child we owe a lot to our parents – they provided for us when we were little so it’s only right for us to return the favor if and when we can.

We see it all the time when celebrities, athletes or anyone famous makes it big time, usually their nearest and dearest has too – take Margot Robbie, for instance, who used her Wolf of Wall Street earnings to pay off her mother’s mortgage.

But not all celebs feel so passionately for their parents as Quentin Tarantino has proved.

The 61-year-old is one of the biggest directors in Hollywood with his film roster including the likes of Pulp FictionOnce Upon a Time… in HollywoodDjango Unchained and Kill Bill – so it is fair to say Tarantino has amassed a huge wealth of money.

In fact, according to Celebrity Net Worth, his estate is valued at $120 million.

With that much dosh surely you’d have a little left over to treat your parents to something nice?

Apparently not, as Tarantino revealed in 2021 that he’s never gave his mom a cent.

Speaking to Billions co-creator Brian Koppelman on The Moment podcast, he explained how she wasn’t always his biggest supporter.

While their relationship may be better now, the director claimed that she never backed his ambition of becoming a writer.

Tarantino recalled how when he got into trouble for writing screenplays in school, his mum would ‘b****’ at him about it, saying: “She said, ‘Oh, and by the way, this little writing career’, with the finger quotes and everything. ‘This little “writing career” that you’re doing? That s*** is f***ing over!’”

He continued: “And when she said that to me in that sarcastic way, I was in my head, and I go, ‘OK, lady. When I become a successful writer, you will never see penny one from my success.

“There will be no house for you. There’s no vacation for you, no Elvis Cadillac for mommy. You get nothing. Because you said that.”

Tarantino went on to clarify that he did once help his mother out financially, however, that was the only time he decided to break his promise.

While it may sound cruel, he did explain his reasoning further.

“There are consequences for your words as you deal with your children,” he said. “Remember there are consequences for your sarcastic tone about what’s meaningful to them.”

Tarantino’s mom, Connie Zastoupil, has previously spoken out on the matter, saying in a statement to USA Today that her son has her support, and that she is ‘proud’ of him.

“Regarding my son Quentin – I support him, I’m proud of him and love him and his growing new family,” she said.

“It gave me great joy to dance at his wedding and receive his news upon the birth of my Grandson Leo.”

The mother went on to say it’s easy for comments like Tarantino’s to ‘spin and go viral without full context’ and that she does ‘not wish to participate in this salacious transactional media frenzy’.
