Legal woes for former Jets player Muhammad Wilkerson: Arrested for allegedly driving drunk with a loaded gun in the car

Last week, former NFL standout Muhammad Wilkerson found himself in legal trouble once again, as he was arrested for allegedly driving under the influence with a loaded firearm stowed beneath his car seat.

According to court documents obtained by TMZ Sports, Wilkerson was pulled over by police in Morris County, New Jersey, on December 22 at 6:41 AM. Officers, suspecting he was impaired, noted a strong smell of alcohol emanating from the vehicle of the former New York Jets pass rusher.

The documents reveal that during the interaction, Wilkerson mentioned he had just left a New York City club. Subsequently, he reportedly failed field sobriety tests. Following these events, Wilkerson was taken into custody. A search of his vehicle yielded not only an open bottle of Don Julio tequila but also an FN 509 Tactical Handgun containing 11 hollow point bullets. Wilkerson claimed the firearm was purchased in Florida but failed to provide proper documentation.

The court records indicate that Wilkerson is facing multiple charges in connection with the incident, including operating a vehicle under the influence and unlawful possession of a handgun. Scheduled hearings on the matter are set for the upcoming month.

This marks another instance of Wilkerson facing accusations of driving under the influence; he had previously been arrested for DWI in 2020 and 2019.
