One Bad Stat Could Spell Trouble For Caitlin Clark’s Rookie Of The Year Campaign

Caitlin Clark is the media darling and co-favorite for WNBA Rookie of the Year with the WNBA’s Indiana Fever.

Her all-around game was on full display with an unreal triple double in an upset win over the New York Liberty earlier this month.

Recently, analyst Skip Bayless pointed out the one aspect of Clark’s game that could derail her Rookie of the Year chances: turnovers.

“Caitlin Clark, leading the WNBA in assists, had 13 more tonight,” he wrote on Saturday after the Fever beat Diana Taurasi’s Mercury 95-86.

“But yes, with five more turnovers,” Bayless added. “Also leading the league BY FAR in that category.

“Still, the Fever beat the Mercury.”

Clark had 20 points, 13 assists and 6 rebounds in 38 minutes, once again showing her growing repertoire of moves and versatility as a professional player.

She was flanked by Kelsey Mitchell with 28 points and Aaliyah Boston with 21 points.

Looking at the WNBA season-long stat sheet, Clark has averaged a staggering 5.5 turnovers per game. 1.7 more than Alyssa Thomas in second place and 1.5 more than Natasha Cloud in third place.

Angel Reese, her closest competitor for Rookie of the Year honors, is averaging 1.8 turnovers per game.

Considering Clark leads the league in assists and has the ball in her hands more than most other players, it’s understandable, but something voters will consider when casting their votes at the conclusion of the 2024 WNBA season.
