All eyes were on Caitlin Clark in Game 2 of the Indiana Fever series against the Connecticut Sun. Since suffering an eye-poke from DiJonai Carrington, many have wondered how the rookie would react in the rematch. Clark has been lashing back as much as she has been taking.
Early in the game, DeWanna Bonner contested a Clark 3-pointer that gave the point guard no room to land. Following a no-call on the play, the two had a little skirmish before play went on. Indiana showed in the first half that it would not be intimidated by the physicality of the hosts.
Caitlin Clark got into another interesting encounter in the first half. While battling for a loose ball along the sidelines with Marina Mabrey, the Fever star pushed the veteran Connecticut guard out.
Fans reacted to Clark’s sideline push against Mabrey:
“Now Clark just pushed Mabrey and drew the file. Clark is playing completely unhinged. She needs to be ejected. NOW.”

The physicality of the game and the roughhousing went up several notches from Game 1 to Game 2. Indiana looked out of sorts and overwhelmed by Connecticut’s approach in the series opener. That hasn’t been the case in the rematch as the Indiana Fever have responded in kind.
It hasn’t been just Caitlin Clark who has been involved in a few skirmishes. Erica Wheeler has had her share of feisty plays. Wheeler flattened a streaking DiJonai Carrington in the second quarter.
Caitlin Clark and DeWanna Bonner were the main protagonists in the first half
Caitlin Clark’s push against Marina Mabrey was the only skirmish involving both players. For the most part, the two played usual playoff basketball in the first half.
Clark’s main opponent in the game has been DeWanna Bonner, her primary defender. The no-call in the first quarter set the tone between the two players.
As Bonner’s biggest task is to shadow the rookie, the tension between them isn’t likely to go away soon.
With 1:29 left in the first quarter, Bonner was sent to the free-throw line where she and Caitlin Clark had another argument. The referee did not call a technical foul on any of the players but he had to step in to stop the jawing.
Unlike in Game 1 when the Fever were blown off the court, the team has shown more fight and competitiveness in the rematch.
Connecticut has been trying to pull away but Clark and Co. have stubbornly remained within striking distance.
The physical plays and the trash-talking aren’t going to go away, particularly with Indiana’s season on the line. Fans will get more of Clark’s matchup against DeWanna Bonner before Game 2 ends.
