In an illuminating conversation with the crowd (yes, the crowd) at a Seattle concert this week, Kanye West let slip the fact he and Jay Z are on awkward terms – revealing everything from why their kids don’t play together to what Jay Z did following Kim’s attack in Paris.
West points the finger at the “streaming wars” between Tidal and Apple Music as the source of many of the problems for the pair – who are both arguably at the top of their field.
“Y’all ain’t get what y’all was suppose to get with me and Drake because of some Tidal/Apple [Music] bullshit,” West said from his floating stage.
“This shit got me tight, yo! Every time I perform [‘N—– in Paris’], I think about this shit. I think about the politics and the bullshit. I think about how hard I go for music, for art, for y’all, the fans. How hard we go.”
But it doesn’t stop there. West let it slip the whole Apple Music/Tidal situation has infected more than just his and Jay Z’s relationship, even going as far to discuss Drake’s involvement in the whole saga – which, as it turns out, has been damaged after Jay Z said he didn’t want his part included on Drake’s song ‘Pop Style’ because it would be streamed on Apple Music and he didn’t want to upset anyone.
Keeping up?
But it wasn’t all streaming services and musical chairs: West continued to reveal more about his relationship with Jay Z (and in turn, Beyoncé), by saying the friendship is so damaged and their kids don’t play together because of it.
“I can’t take this shit, bro! Our kids have never even played together.”
But wait, there’s more!
West also said he felt hurt because Jay Z only called him on the phone following Kim Kardashian’s Paris robbery, and didn’t visit him in person “like brothers”, giving the impression that West does actually want to be friends with Jay?
