According to Page Six , before Taylor Swift released The Tortured Poets Department on April 19, Kim Kardashian ‘s Instagram account had 364.3 million followers. However, as of April 23, that number had dropped to 363 million followers and was on track to lose even more.
The reason why Kim Kardashian lost more than 100,000 followers is said to be because of thanK you aIMee – a song included in 15 additional tracks for Taylor’s 11th studio album.
Taylor didn’t directly identify it, but fans could easily see who she was referring to in the song. Right from the title, the unusual capitalization of the letter “K” made listeners unable to help but associate it with Kim Kardashian.
Delving deeper into the lyrics, Taylor sings about a “bronze, tanned” bully. The 1989-𝐛𝐨𝐫𝐧 singer mentions how her opponent trampled on her “grave,” emphasizing that their fight was unfair.
“All the time you were throwing punches, I was building something/ And I can’t forgive the way you made me feel/ Screaming ‘(fuck), Aimee’ to the night sky, while the blood was pouring/ But I can’t forget the way you made me heal/ And it wasn’t a fair fight or a clean 𝓀𝒾𝓁𝓁/ Every time Aimee stepped on my grave/ And then she wrote a headline/ In the local paper, laughing at every little step I took…”, Taylor’s lyrics roughly translated.
Taylor said the trauma she endured left her “saintly” mother wishing the bully were dead.
Ultimately, the pop superstar prides herself on having built a legacy that her enemies can never erase, and imagines the prospect of her enemy singing a song that “only the two of us know is about her.”
Kim Kardashian has not commented on Taylor’s criticism or the loss of a large number of followers. The reality TV star appeared unconcerned when photos were leaked of her dining out with friends.
However, the audience, especially Taylor’s fans, expressed their delight at the Blank Space hitmaker’s sarcastic remarks .
Netizens commented: “Taylor released a song scolding Kim Kardashian and I have never been happier”, “Taylor said I do not forgive you, Kim Kardashian”, “This song is one of my favorite songs on the album, thank you Taylor”, “I never thought Taylor would release a song scolding Kim, but I am here for it. I imagine North (Kim’s daughter) will laugh”, “Can anyone imagine Kim calling Kris (her biological mother) and screaming and crying”…
At that time, Kanye released the rap song Famous , which insulted Taylor. Not stopping there, Kanye also hired someone to impersonate Taylor nɑƙeɗ in the music video. While Taylor objected, Kim confirmed to GQ that the singer had allowed her husband to do it.
“She knew the music video was coming out, and then she suddenly acted like she didn’t,” the lingerie mogul claimed.
Kim also released a recording of a call between Kanye West and Taylor Swift. The Cruel Summer star later claimed the call was illegally recorded and edited.
After the uproar, Kim’s fans spammed Taylor, calling her a liar and sending snake emojis.
In response, Taylor used the image of a king snake in her 2017 album Reputation . During her subsequent tour of the same name, she decorated the stage with giant snake effigies.
Although Kim said on Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen in 2019 that the feud was over, Taylor brought up the scandal during her 2023 Time Person of the Year interview.
“It hit me mentally like I had never been before. I shut myself off from most people in my life because I didn’t trust anyone anymore. I hit a really, really hard low,” Taylor said in December 2023.
