NBA Trades: Sneakerhead Jose Alvarado and the Pelicans ink new contract

According to information from the prestigious ESPN website, the New Orleans Pelicans have reached an agreement to extend the contract with Jose Alvarado.

The Puerto Rican guard will be tied to the Pelicans for two more years at an average salary of $4.5 million per season. With an additional $1.9 million for the 2024-25 season about to start, Alvarado will be able to pocket nearly $12 million over the next three years.

Although he does not have an impressive height in the NBA at only 1m82, Jose Alvarado still wins the hearts of New Orleans Pelicans fans in particular and the entire league in general thanks to his enthusiastic playing spirit.

He has a relatively good ability to defend on the outside, is not afraid to compete fiercely with taller players and especially has a knack for stealing the ball from opponents. This is what helps Alvarado jokingly call “pickpocket specialist” in the NBA.

Highlights of Jose Alvarado’s ball steals

Last season, Jose Alvarado scored 7.1 points, 2.1 assists and 1.1 steals in just over 18 minutes per game. This contribution helped Jose finish 6th in the race for the Sixth Man of The Year title.

Jose Alvarado’s $9 million two-year contract is considered a bargain by experts for the New Orleans Pelicans. In addition to his contributions on the field, Alvarado is also loved by many teammates off the field.

One plus point for Jose is that in the 2023-24 season, he shot from distance with more confidence and achieved a 38% 3PT success rate. This will be a positive sign for both Alvarado and the Pelicans before the new season, where the “Pelicans” set a goal of returning and going deep into the 2025 Playoffs.
