The mother of New York Jets quarterback Zach Wilson is taking up for her son this week.
Zach Wilson’s mother, Lisa, took to social media and explained what happened to her son after a scary concussion against the Miami Dolphins.
Jets quarterback Zach Wilson had to exit Sunday’s game early after just 22 snaps. The Jets later announced Wilson had a head injury before ruling him out with a concussion in the third quarter. Wilson was 4 for 11 with just 26 yards. It was unclear on what play Wilson was injured, but he was briefly looked at in the medical tent early in the game when his head hit the ground during a play.

Wilson’s mom, Lisa, said in an Instagram story that the QB didn’t alert the coaching staff about how badly he was hurt until he got blurred vision and issues with his depth perception reached a concerning level.
“Yesterday was a little bit rough, Zach took some really, really big hits and he fought through it and really tried to just stay out on the field,” Lisa Wilson said. “He didn’t want to go out, he didn’t want to stop playing — so he didn’t tell the sideline, the coaches, the trainers how he was really feeling and tried to just fight through it and be out there for his guys.”
“Finally, after one more blow to the head, he really started having problems with blurred vision and his depth perception,” Lisa Wilson said. “He really started worrying that he was actually going to hurt his team if he stayed out there because his vision was not right and how you can’t play like that.”
Wilson, who is the reigning AFC Offensive Player of the Week, has had an up-and-down 2023 campaign where he was likely never supposed to see the field after the acquisition of Aaron Rodgers. However, he was coming off the best performance he’s had all year in the Jets’ win over the Texans where he threw for 301 yards and two touchdowns.
Wilson’s status for Sunday’s game against the Washington Commanders remains clouded. He might not clear concussion protocol and Trevor Siemian will be starting in his place.
Rodgers had been publicly musing about possibly returning from his ruptured Achilles later this month but the team is eliminated from playoff contention.
