Running back Ezekiel Elliott has yet to sign with a new team for next season, but he has reached a settlement with a woman who was suing him in court over an attack by one of his dogs.
According to Dallas Morning News reporter Isabella Volmert, Jennifer Gampper filed a lawsuit against the player in July 2021 and was seeking more than one million dollars in damages caused by one of Elliott‘s dogs, which allegedly left her with “serious and permanent injuries” during an attack.
The case was scheduled to go to a jury this week. Christopher Hamilton, Gampper‘s lawyer, confirmed that the lawsuit had been “settled” and that he could not comment further on the case.
The alleged assault occurred in the city of Frisco, Texas. Police officers in the area were called to search for three dogs that had reportedly gone missing on May 20, 2021.
However, one of the dogs, a Rottweiler, attacked two people before being captured. The two people were hospitalized following the animal’s attack.
After investigation, it was concluded that the dogs belonged to Elliott. The lawsuit records further stated that the player “had knowledge that his dogs were aggressive and prone to bite and attack,” but failed to take any steps to keep the animals restrained and under proper care.
After being cut by the Dallas Cowboys this off-season, the player is still looking for a new team to play for in 2023.
