Kevin Porter Jr. is likely to not only lose his career, but also his freedom.
Porter was arrested on Monday after it was reported that following an argument, he beat up his girlfriend, former WNBA lottery pick Kysre Gondrezick, in the Times Square hotel room. Gondrezick is now apparently pressing domestic violence charges for the incident, alleging Porter is guilty of an assortment of crimes that include assault and strangulation.
More news has since come out that shows she suffered a fractured neck vertebrae.
The Houston Rockets guard was released on $75,000 cash bail. The judge imposed a temporary order of protection.
The 23-year-old is charged with assault and strangulation. According to the criminal complaint, the 26-year-old girlfriend told police Porter struck her “repeatedly about the face with a closed fist, causing a laceration above her right eye and bruising and substantial pain to her face.”

The woman said Porter applied “pressure to her neck by forcefully squeezing it, causing her to experience difficulty breathing, redness and bruising to her neck, and substantial pain,” the complaint said.
Porter was a first-round pick in the 2019 NBA Draft and played one season for the Cleveland Cavaliers before being traded to the Rockets in January 2021.
The Rockets and the NBA both released brief statements regarding the situation with Porter.
“We are in the process of gathering information surrounding the matter involving Kevin Porter Jr.,” the Rockets said in a statement. “We have no further comment at this time.”
Porter has averaged 15.3 points, 5.0 assists, and 4.3 rebounds in 196 career games. He signed a four-year extension last October that is worth up to $82.5 million.
